The Confederate Officer’s House

10 May 2016 | May 2016

I currently live in a farmhouse that was built in 1890 by a retired Confederate officer who built this house after the war with money he may have gotten illegally. All that’s known is that he lived here until he died. I love almost everything about the house, but it is creepy, and I have had some strange experiences.

My dogs will always go into the back room and bark. They always have since we moved in. I always thought they were hearing something outside on that side of the house—but one day I went in there and saw an apparition. It looked human enough, but it was see-through. It seemed like rippling water. My brother says that he has seen that shadow figure all over the house. I have never experienced that, but I have heard the murmur of voices all over the house.

A few weeks ago I was standing in my kitchen, and looked over to the back room. The shadow thing was there. It was doing what it always did. But it seemed to get stronger. I could see some kind of shadow behind it, but I still couldn’t make out a face.

My brother, who was staying over, happened to wake up screaming around the same time. I ran to his room and he said that he had been having a nightmare. He saw a man with no face standing in my back room. Apparently the figure melted in front of him. I thought he was just making more of the whole thing.

A few days ago I had the same dream—and it was eerie. I wonder what happened in this house, and who is that shadow man? I am trying to research the house—I want to know more about that Confederate officer.
