Under the Vegetable Market in Brno are a series of tunnels and cellars collectively known as the Brno Labyrinth. You can even take a short-guided tour of these connected cellars. What you will see on the tour are a lot of old cellars that were constructed below what was a very busy market square in the center of Brno. They were used to store produce and to keep that produce fresh for as long as possible.
However, that is not all that was stored down there for a certain Countess Amalia, a beautiful and clever lady, would take her lovers’ bodies into the tunnels to hide them there after she had murdered them. There are supposed to have been 13 men knifed to death by this lady who now wanders the tunnels, walking with a cane and laughing hoarsely, sometimes swinging her knife and searching with her cane to be sure that the remains of her lovers stay safely hidden.
