When I was a child, my family and I lived in a very old house, which my grandfather had built on his own. It was so old that we sometimes saw cockroaches in the kitchen. In the kitchen I used to wash the dishes together with my grandma. But one day my grandmother suddenly felt very weak and she died. We were very sad. I can remember the funeral because, even though I was very young, it was my first experience where any of my relatives had died.
Time passed. One day I was washing dishes in the kitchen. It was a very hot and stuffy day. Then I felt something behind me. I thought it was my mother, so I looked back. There was no one there except this white shadow. It passed by me and disappeared. But strangely, I didn’t feel scared.
Thinking back, I am sure that white shadow was my grandmother. And my grandmother had come back to wash the dishes with me! It was nice of you to do so, grandmother! –- Naotaka Tomita
