I am a retired Police officer with over 30 years of law enforcement service. I am currently an Orthodox Anglican Priest. This encounter happened when I was 14 years old and my brother was 12.
We were on our way to our grandparents ranch in Idaho and had stopped off in Mammoth Lakes, CA to take a rest and get something to eat. After eating my brother and I went on a hike around the lake. The lake is surrounded by pine trees and hiking trails. We were walking east on one of trails when we saw a commotion in some bushes south of the trail. We stopped walking and the observed a tiny man come out of the bushes and he turned and looked at my brother and I. He had a tall red pointed hat and was wearing a blue long sleeve work type shirt and brown pants and brown knee high boots. He had a brown work style belt with a pouch on it. His face was slightly red and he had a white beard with blue eyes. He looked like a little Santa Claus! I then realized we were looking at a Gnome! He smiled at us and then ran across the trail behind a tree and disappeared. We ran up and searched the area but we could not find him. We ran back and told our parents what we saw but they did not believe us.
I spent that summer researching Gnomes and learned a great deal about them.
