The Haunted House of Shadows

23 November 2020 | Haunted houses, Your Stories, Your True Encounters

I was about 6 years old when these experiences happened. When I was young my parents had divorced causing our family to abruptly split up and move into different homes. My dad moved my brother and I to a new apartment, owned by my father’s best friend. It was a nice apartment (half a house) that had many rooms and a lot of space for my brother and I to play in. Money was tight but my dad did what he could to provide for his kids. This house seemed normal at first, but it all seemed to quickly change. I have a few very frightening occurrences happen in this house, and they still haunt me to this day.

My first experience began soon after we moved in. I had lost a tooth at school and was excited to leave my tooth for the tooth fairy, like every child. That night, my dad helped me do my usual night routine of showering, brushing my teeth, and changing into pajamas. My dad tucked me in and told me good night and I fell asleep quickly as usual. In the middle of the night, I woke up to a strange noise and a general feeling of anxiety. Expecting to wake up to the tooth fairy, I woke up to a shadow person standing over top of me inches from my face staring into my eyes. The shadow is the darkest thing I have ever seen. It had no eyes, just empty sockets full of nothing. I couldn’t scream, I couldn’t cry, I sat motionless staring into the blackhole of eyes for what seemed like minutes. It tilted its head in a very unnatural motion before running into the wall and disappearing. I screamed for my dad, he busted through my closed door. I told him what had happened but there was nothing to do except comfort me. He reassured me that it was just a dream and that it couldn’t hurt me. I couldn’t sleep after that.

A few weeks later, I was taking a bath before bed. My dad always kept the door open to make sure I was safe in the bathtub, check on me often. Sitting in the bathtub you could see the bottom of the stairs. I stopped playing with my toys and looked at the bottom of the stairs. Something had caught my eye. I glance at the bottom of the stairs again to see the same figure that I had saw standing over top of me just a few weeks earlier. Frightened and confused I tried to call for my dad. Before I could even get out one word, the figure ran up the stairs with impossible speeds and was at the door of the bathroom staring at me. It was a humanoid figure, dark as night, contorting its body in unnatural ways, like something out of a horror movie. That is when I screamed as loud as I could, sending my dad into a full-blown panic. He ran so fast up those stairs and pulled me out of the tub thinking that I was hurt. As before there was nothing, he could do but comfort me. He had yet to see or experience anything in this house (that he would admit lol). I cried for hours in pure and genuine terror.

A few weeks later my brother started to experience weird and terrifying occurrences. He would be fast asleep in the middle of the night, when the stereo in his room would turn on max volume blasting death metal, waking everyone up in the house. My dad would bust into his room angry that he was being woke up by my brother and his nonsense. My brother would exclaim that he wasn’t the one turning the music on and was just as shocked as everyone else. This happened a few times. One night my brother and I were staying at my mom’s for the weekend, when the stereo in my brother’s room turned on full blast in the middle of the night AGAIN. My dad being home alone when it happened finally realized that it wasn’t my brother doing it.

Still not seeing or hearing much my dad finally had a horrifying experience. The final straw came when my dad was home alone cleaning. He was walking down the hallway when he had saw the black shadow figure in the middle of the day. He was on one side of the hallway and the “thing” was at the other end of the hallway staring menacingly at my dad. He was staring at it in fear of what it was. Before my dad could blink the “thing” ran down the hallway at an unnatural speed and right through my dad’s body. Horrified of what had just happened to him he promptly left the house and didn’t come back until the next day. We moved out of that house shortly after.

My dad had talked with his best friend telling him what had been happening. My dads’ friend had told him that an old woman had passed away in the house prior to us moving in. My dad being a logical person didn’t think anything of it. My dad’s friend had a few experiences in the house when working in the attic. One time he was shoved from behind while he was renovating in the attic. He was scared and left the house for a little bit. When he had come back to finish working on the attic, he attempted to leave and the attic door was mysteriously locked, and he could not get out. He was stuck in the attic with that thing. He had to call someone to get him out of the attic. Doors would arbitrarily lock by themselves including the attic and basement, footsteps would be heard, and doors would slam shut all the time. My dad always told me that the women who passed away in the house was a harmless spirt and that I had nothing to worry about. All I can say is that she was far from harmless and loved terrifying my family. I have driven past the house in recent years, but I still can’t bring myself to go inside.

I hope that you enjoyed these stories. I have many more paranormal experiences to tell but I will save those for another day!
