Almost forgotten in the small village of Charing, at the junction of The Hill, and Pett Lane, stands an ancient white stone mounting block with three time worn steps. You may have to search a little if you wish to see this, as during the summer months it becomes overgrown with weeds and the growing branches of a hedge close by. It is an interesting reminder of the old days of Tudor Charing, when it was first placed here for the convenience of riders in the village, just a few yards up from the old blacksmiths workshop and forge.
