Halloween Haunts #2: The Very Essence Of Evil That Lurks in Alabama

28 October 2016 | Audible Activity, Creepy places, Haunted houses, Haunted locations, October 2016

If you’re ever travelling through Alabama during your vacation time… you may find yourself face-to-face with the very essence of evil. A place called Sloss Furnaces. This dark, and grisly place, from 1882 to 1971, transformed coal and ore from surrounding acres into the hard steel that would pave the way for industy. From skyscrapers in New York to cars being built in Detroit, America came to rely on Sloss Furnaces for providing materials needed to produce thousands of products.  But this success came at a dangerously high price… In the early 1900’s, James “Slag” Wormwood, was foreman of the “Graveyard Shift”, the period between sunset and sunrise, where a crew of nearly one hundred and fifty workers toiled to keep the furnace fed. During the summer months, temperatures throughout

What Lurks in Brno’s Labyrinth?

24 October 2016 | Haunted locations, Your Stories

Under the Vegetable Market in Brno are a series of tunnels and cellars collectively known as the Brno Labyrinth. You can even take a short-guided tour of these connected cellars. What you will see on the tour are a lot of old cellars that were constructed below what was a very busy market square in the center of Brno. They were used to store produce and to keep that produce fresh for as long as possible. However, that is not all that was stored down there for a certain Countess Amalia, a beautiful and clever lady, would take her lovers’ bodies into the tunnels to hide them there after she had murdered them. There are supposed to have been 13 men knifed to death by this lady who now wanders

The Hanging Man Of Amarillo

21 October 2016 | Haunted locations, Your Stories

In the mid-1950’s I was traveling with my husband to Amarillo, Texas. It was a nice day, and we were enjoying ourselves. We drove south and to my surprise we passed a man hanging from a tree. He was dressed in a pair of jeans, no shirt, no shoes. It completely caught me by surprise. I asked my husband if he saw it, and he hadn’t. He just thought it was my imagination. I thought that perhaps I’d imagined it too. We arrived in Amarillo, spent six weeks with my family, and then we returned home. We were close to the area where I’d seen the hanging man. We stopped for some dinner, and a rest. My husband and I started talking to one of the waitresses there who told

The Woman in the Waiting Room.

10 October 2016 | Haunted locations, Your Stories

In November 2011, I took my brother, Greg, to the ER. I was directed to the waiting room while they took an initial look at him. It was very early in the morning, around two or so, and unsurprisingly, no one else was in the waiting room. So I had a seat to wait on until I could go back. I had been sitting for a while when a young woman came in and sat down near me. We smiled at each other and started talking. After a while, a nurse came by, looked over at us and stopped. Looking at me the nurse asked if there was something wrong. I answered, “No, we are just talking” The nurse looked at me as if I was crazy. Then she said

The Nursing Home From Hell?

03 October 2016 | Audible Activity, Haunted locations, Your Stories

About four years ago, I was working at a nursing home. I worked night shift with three to four other people. Each night we were assigned a hall on which we did rounds every two hours and answered call lights as needed. In our down time between rounds, we usually would sit in the dining hall, which was located right in the middle. For the first couple of months I worked there… nothing happened. I was a bit disappointed and said so one night between rounds. I’d been told detailed stories of things that had happened and was beginning to think people were doing just that, telling stories. When it was time to do rounds again that night, I moved from room to room without any trouble until I got

A Ripple In Time? The Hanged Man.

28 September 2016 | Haunted locations, Your Stories

I have been a first responder for many years. Some very strange things have happened. But nothing like this one situation I found myself in. I was called out to a “situation” one evening. I arrived and spoke to a middle aged lady who told me that her son was under the influence of a drug. She didn’t know what drug he had taken. But apparently he had been babbling and acting in a very strange way. He had told her that he was scared to go to his room because an old man was hanging above his bed. She said that she hadn’t checked out his claim as she was too scared to go into his room. She did tell me that he was constantly bringing friends over who

The Haunted Hotel Room!

19 September 2016 | Haunted locations, Your Stories

Five years ago my wife and I decided to take a weekend break.  The hotel we chose was a hotel named the Barony Castle hotel on the outskirts of Peebles on the Scottish border. The hotel itself lay in acres of land surrounded by forest. While getting dressed for an evening meal. My wife was sat at the dressing table while I was standing by the bed, when suddenly the Television, which stood on the other side of the room,  switched itself on. It stayed on for a few minutes then switched itself off again. It did this about three times. Neither my wife or myself felt fazed by this, until the following morning while we where checking out. The receptionist said to us, “Oh, I see you where in

Haunting Review of a Hotel in Prague on TripAdvisor!

15 September 2016 | Haunted locations, Your Stories

I found this review of a hotel in Prague on Tripadvisor.com while doing research for my next book. I think they posted it to the wrong site! Do you agree? My wife and I stayed at the wonderful Green lobster hotel and we had the first suite on the first floor. The suite was amazing and more than comfortable, we have to say by far the best hotel we have stayed at in our trips to Prague. However we do believe there was a little bit of spiritual activity in the suite to keep us both entertained. Both my wife and I struggle to believe in anything like that, but if it’s in your face you can’t argue can you? The first thing was a light stroking of my face

Something Haunts Oregon’s Caves!

14 September 2016 | Haunted locations

Being a Geologist myself, I enjoyed this story. I’m no believer in the Bloody Mary urban legend but I can well understand how this incident would scare the hell out of anyone! I wonder, did they disturb a black magic ritual in Lucifer’s Corner? As a young teenager, I was very close friends with the son of a geologist. My friend and his family used to spend much of their vacation time in Oregon and California exploring the ancient caves.  One year they invited me to go with them. When we got to the caves my friends father told us to take a sweater and a flashlight because it was very cold and very dark inside the caves. Me and my friend came to the entrance of the cave and

A Vampire Terrorized A Czech Village

12 September 2016 | Haunted locations, Vampires

In doing research for an upcoming book on the Czech Republic, I came across a vampire story…. In Ždár nad Sázavou, a Czech vampire once roamed. Alois Ulrich was an unkindly man and the administrator of the local castle estate. He treated his fellow humans with the same contempt that he had for animals. In his early 60’s, he contracted a strange disease and died. No one was particularly sad to see him pass away. He was buried in the lower churchyard. But Alois continued to terrorize his neighbors even in death as he was seen by many villagers both in the cemetery and standing on a local bridge. There was even a murder attributed to the dead Alois. The increasingly concerned and scared inhabitants called on a local landowner to

Halloween Nightmare

07 September 2016 | Haunted locations, Your Stories

In October of 1971, some friends of mine told me about the old Confederate cemetery across the river from Fort Smith, Arkansas, in the small town of Lavaca. Trying to frighten me, because I am from Michigan, they challenged me to go to the cemetery on Halloween night. With me driving and my friends giving me the directions, off we went to Lavaca to see the “ghosts” of the Civil War. The cemetery was right next to this small white church that we had to drive down a narrow lane between orchards to get to. There was a clock, on a timer in the steeple that gonged for every hour. That Halloween night, when the clock struck twelve, the clock gonged thirteen times not twelve. When I looked over to

Kutna Hora – The Remains of 50,000 People!

02 September 2016 | Haunted locations

In a town named Kutna Hora, here in the Czech Republic, there is a very famous ossuary that is said to contain the bones of between 40,000 and 70,000 people. The site, which is beneath the cemetery of the Church of All Saints just outside of Kutna Hora, is a very creepy visit. Four huge bell-shaped mounds of bones in each corner of the Chapel are accentuated by delightful human skeletal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. There is even a coat of arms – all made from human skeletal remains, on the wall. The story behind how this came to be is fascinating. Back in 1278, a monk returned from the Holy Land with soil from Golgotha. This was spread in the cemetery making it a much wanted final destination

Could Your School Be Haunted? An Experience of the Paranormal From A Teacher

27 July 2016 | Creepy places, Haunted houses, Haunted locations, Your Stories

Ever since I qualified as a teacher I have been had some very interesting paranormal experiences inside school buildings. One building was reputed to be haunted by quite a few ghosts and there were a lot of cold spots—especially in the gym where a murder was said to have taken place. However, the story I am submitting today is rather strange. In this particular school, we usually had twenty to thirty students per class. My classroom that day was quite spacious for us and on my left were the door and narrow window. I had a few jokers in this class that day that kept on annoying each other, so while I was writing on the board, I was keeping an eye on their reflections, too. At first, I was

Unnerved by a Haunted Workplace!

19 July 2016 | Haunted locations

It was somewhere in the late 1990s or early 2000s and at that time, I was employed as an engineering manager. Where I worked there were three buildings each joined together by tunnels approximately 10 yards long. Each building held about 300 employees. I had an engineering team of about 11 men. One was a young man named Ian, who like myself had not worked there very long, only a matter of about six months. One day, I was in the boiler house when Ian came in and we just started a general chit chat. He asked did I believe in ghosts and then he began telling me a story of how not long after he had started to work for the company, he had been in the very boiler
