I was ending another long day of construction work with a meal at a Golden Corral steak house in south Florida. As I exited the building, it was already dark and close to 9 pm. I was approached by a young man, clean, respectful, but who explained that he was down on his luck and living behind the restaurant in a tent, and could I give him some money. I said nothing and walked to my truck. My policy was to give nothing to panhandlers. I got in the truck and could plainly see the entire area but he was gone, vanished! I currently live in a farmhouse that was built in 1890 by a retired Confederate officer who built this house after the war with money he may have gotten illegally.
