I have experienced many paranormal things, but there were three events that scared me so much that I still feel afraid when I remember them. I’m Nepali and I live in Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, there are many people from the Newar culture. We were living in a flat that belonged to a Newar family.
In Newar culture, when someone dies, there is a tradition of burying the body beneath the house.
I used to sleep alone in my room. My mom would sometimes sleep with me, and sometimes with my sister. One night, I couldn’t sleep at all and was just lying awake. My mom usually worked late into the night before going to bed.
Suddenly, I heard the sound of my room door opening, then the sound of someone sitting on the bed. After that, I heard something fall.
Then, right next to me, I heard a loud breathing sound, and I couldn’t sleep because of it. I asked my mom, “Are you breathing like that?” But when I looked, no one was there. I thought maybe it was just the wind from the window, but all the windows were tightly shut.
I went to check, and found out my mom was actually sleeping with my sister. I got scared. The next day, I talked to the aunty who lived upstairs, and she told me that an old grandmother had been buried right beneath my room.
