This is a possible explanation for women who claim to have sex with ghosts, because it happened to me during a Disseminated Histoplasmosis outbreak. I noticed this phenomenon after the victims moved into a new building. My coworkers and I, all immunocompetent, got Disseminated Histoplasmosis from roosting bats, that shed the fungus in their feces. Bats evolved to deal with the photophobia and tinnitus it causes by hunting at night using echolocation.
It went to my CNS and caused all kinds of issues. A lot are what many people who believe they are haunted experience. Like spontaneous scratches (dermatitis) and bruises, smelling an incredibly foul odor, and MS-like effects like “smoke” or vapors. There’s more, but I don’t want to bore you. (Fungus is in the same clade as humans, and share similar/same molecules…I think I read the molecule attacked in multiple sclerosis is in fungal cell walls.?)
Anyway, for a few months it felt like I was having the most wonderful sex with an invisible man. Pardon my saying, but it felt like “he” was touching me in all my erogenous zones and having sex with me.
I later realized I was having a passionate affair with a fungus, and yet it STILL wasn’t the dumbest thing I had ever dated. 🙂
