This story took place in London, Ontario about twenty years ago. I was staying with my parents at a close family friends’ house. Our vacation was going well until one night I was woken up by something tapping on my shoulder. Fast taps in rhythm. I tend to be a deep sleeper, but these taps woke me straight up. I turned over and switched on the light. Nothing was there. I turned the light off and lay on my back. About a minute later the taps started again. But faster than before. I turned the light on again and could see nothing. I was getting scared by this point and didn’t want to turn the light off. Eventually I settled down and turned it off and the tapping started again.

This is the story of a ghost hunting trip to the old abandoned Elgin Mental hospital cemetery. I first heard about it online, where I read stories of the former grounds keeper hearing chilling sounds and heard it said that there may be three bodies in every grave. For over 100 years, the hospital operated as the Illinois State Institution for the insane. This incident took place a few years ago, I had no interest at all in the paranormal until this occurrence. I was home alone, as my parents were out for the evening, and I was in the living room of our house on my laptop. My laptop is set up so that my back is to the wall. From there, I have a clear view of our kitchen. I was browsing different websites. One of my dogs, Caspar, was curled up on the chair next to me. My mother died suddenly when I was a teenager and as a way of keeping her memory alive my father thought it would be a good idea for me to wear her cross. He told me that he would come to my dorm at college that weekend and bring it with him. When he arrived, he went to get the envelope out of his jacket pocket, he couldn’t find it. More than a little bit worried, he went and searched the entire car to see if it might have fallen out. Not finding it there, he went back home and tried to find it—but had no luck. Finally giving up, he went went about the events of the day feeling very bad for having lost the cross he promised me.
